Student Enrichment Centre

The Student Enrichment Centre (SEC) works to maximize access to quality, educational outcomes for all students within our community. The SEC’s role is to develop, coordinate and deliver educational and social programs appropriate to the individual needs of students.

Learning Support
Learning Support at FLSHS supports students with learning difficulties and students who are gifted and require extension. All students are tested at the beginning and end of each year so that students who need this support are identified.
Supporting students with learning difficulties may take the form of assisting the student in class (by an additional teacher or teacher aide) or assisting the teacher to provide modified class work and or assessment. Students with learning difficulties in Stage A and B also receive specialised tuition in the Language Enhancement (Stage B) or LINC (Stage A) literacy lessons.
Most students who are identified as gifted or talented follow an extended core curriculum in the middle school in the Lighthouse Academic Extension Program. This continues in Year 10 and then students take up subjects of their choice in Years 11 and 12.

Students with Disabilities

While the SEC is coded to provide specialist support to students with physical impairment, intellectual impairment or Autistic Spectrum Disorder, we aim to assist all students with disability. The staff work together with parents, specialist teachers, advisory visiting teachers, secondary school staff and outside agencies to provide rich learning experiences that are practical, worthwhile and meeting the individual needs of the students.

We have a strong commitment to maintaining a supportive and equitable environment that enables each child to feel confident and happy at school.

Programs within the SEC can include:

  • Functional Literacy
  • Functional Numeracy
  • Life Skills
  • Social Skills
  • Travel Training
  • Flexible access to regular classes
  • Modified programming and assessment
  • Transition programming
  • Work Experience
