COURSE OVERVIEW

Economics is essentially a study of how to use scarce resources in the best way possible. Households, businesses and governments are confronted with the economic problem of alternative uses of their limited resources. The course helps students to understand the significance of economic events and emphasises the application of economic skills and concepts to the problems facing Australian society.

COURSE OUTLINE

Four core topics will be studied over the two-year course:
  • The circular flow and price mechanism
  • The economics of labour
  • Contemporary economic management
  • International economics
STUDY REQUIREMENTS

Economics at Forest Lake SHS is offered through the Virtual Schooling Service. Students have access to their teachers and the course material through telephone and internet links. To be successful in this mode of learning, students need to be self-motivated and independent learners.

ASSESSMENT SUMMARY

Students are assessed by a range of techniques so that they have every opportunity to show their best performance. Assessment types include:
  • Extended writing
  • Short response
  • Non-written techniques
