Music Excellence Program

Music is a signature program at Forest Lake State High School.  There are two complementary programs, Instrumental Music and Classroom Music.

MUSIC NEWS

Two of our talented 2014 graduates have gone on to study music at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music.  Rachel, a violinist, is studying a Bachelor of Performance.  She achieved an OP1, which included a VH 10 in music and VH 10 in music extension.  Caylen, a vocalist, is studying a Bachelor of Popular Music.  She studied a Non-Authority pathway at school, achieving a VH 9 in music and a VH 8 in music extension.  Entry to university was following a successful audition, folio and interview.  We look forward to following the musical endeavours of these brilliant students!

In 2014, the year 12 music extension class had more than 75% of the class achieve an A standard.  This was the same result as 2013. A or VH standards are ranked from 10 to 1, with a VH 10 being the highest possible achievement.

Why Study Music at Forest Lake SHS?

CLASSROOM MUSIC

Students in years 7 and 8 study music as part of their timetabled curriculum.

Students in years 9 to 12 can choose music as an elective.  In years 9 and 10, the music electives are Music and Advanced Music.  In years 11 and 12, students can study Non-Authority Music Studies and/or Authority Music.  Further to this, students in year 12 can elect to study Music Extension and specialise in Musicology, Composition or Performance.

There are many performance opportunities at school and in the local community for our musicians.  For the last few years, we have also been supported by a local hip-hop musician from The Salvation Army, who partners with the school for Music Studies students, providing song writing, production and performance opportunities in the local community and further afield.
