Vocational Education

Vocational Education and Training
Forest Lake State High School students are able to undertake nationally recognised vocational education and training (VET) qualifications while they are still at school.
VET is learning that is directly related to work. Nationally recognised qualifications are developed by industry to give people the knowledge and skills they need to work in a particular job.
Students can undertake VET at school:
  • as part of their school studies - delivered and resourced by our school which is a registered training organisation (RTO 30288)
  • by enrolling in a qualification with an external RTO - funded either by the Department of Education and Training's VET investment budget or through fee-for-service arrangements i.e. where the student or parent pays for the qualification.
All students completing a VET Couse require a Unique Student Identifier (USI).
What is a USI?
The USI is a reference number made up of ten numbers and letters that:
  • creates a secure online record of your recognised training and qualifications gained in Australia, from all training providers you undertake recognised training with
  • will give you access to your training records and transcripts
  • can be accessed online, anytime and anywhere
  • is free and easy to create and stays with you for life
USI’s are generated on the website.  Students will require Identification to complete the process e.g. Medicare card or birth certificate.
Once the USI has been created, students are required to provide the USI number to VET Centre staff for verification.
School Based Options
Forest Lake State High School is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO 30288) that delivers Vocational Education and Training (VET) programs. We are recognised as providing quality assured, nationally recognised training and qualifications by offering a variety of Certificates at Levels I and II. As the RTO, these courses are internally moderated and students have the right to appeal qualification results. Appeal forms are available for download on this page or are available from the Head of Department (Senior Schooling).
Courses offered by Forest Lake State High School include:
  • YEAR 10
Certificate I in Business
Certificate I in Information, Digital Media and Technologies
  • YEAR 11, 12
Certificate II in Business
Certificate II in Information, Digital Media and Technologies
Certificate II in Skills for Work and Vocational Pathways
We always endeavour to keep our course offerings fair, equitable and industry current and therefore seek feedback regularly.
All feedback can be given to course trainers, the Head of Department of the curriculum or the Head of Department (Senior Schooling). Every year students will be asked to complete a feedback survey. We ask that this survey is completed thoughtfully and honestly so that we can use this feedback and continually improve.
Industry Consultation
Every year we seek to improve our courses and welcome input from industry delegates. If you are interested in helping us build quality qualifications to meet the needs of local business, please contact us.
