School-based apprenticeships and traineeships combine school studies, off-the-job training with a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), and paid employment with a host employer. These programs enable students to gain credit toward a nationally recognised qualification while completing their senior schooling.
Students generally attend the workplace one day per week. During school holidays, additional hours may be offered by mutual agreement between the student and the host employer.
Students may undertake school-based apprenticeships and traineeships in a range of industry areas, including:
- Automotive
- Business
- Childcare
- Engineering
- Hospitality
- Hairdressing
- Retail
- Plumbing
Students who are interested in pursuing this pathway should seek support from the Pathways Centre to ensure they understand the application process, eligibility requirements, and the commitments involved in undertaking a school-based apprenticeship or traineeship.
