Professional Choreographer Workshop Experiences
Students learn and perform pieces choreographed by guest artists and have the opportunity to participate in various individual workshop experiences. Exposure to professional artists includes, but is not limited to, The Hood Dance Academy, The Homebase Studios, The Queensland Ballet, Raw Dance Company, Elements Collective, CLI Studios and independent contemporary and hip hop dance artists.
South-East Queensland Dance Eisteddfods
Students studying dance curriculum are eligible to audition for our Dance Performance Troupes in Hip Hop, Jazz, Contemporary and Musical Theatre dance genres. The Troupes compete at various Dance Eisteddfods throughout South-East Queensland including the Brisbane Performing Arts Challenge, the Brisbane Eisteddfod, Beenleigh Quota Eisteddfod and DanceLife Unite regional championships.
Dance Camps and Tours
Each year students in the Dance programs have the opportunity to attend a camp or tour. The availability of these trips depends on the outcomes of eisteddfod and any current travel restrictions in place. In 2018 and 2019 our troupes went on tour to Sydney to compete in the DanceLife Unite National Championships. In addition to performing in the National Championships, students participate in workshops of various dance genres with industry professionals hosted by DanceLife Unite and at the renowned Brent St Studios.
Forest Lake State High School has experienced much success at the National Championships in various sections, including our Senior Hip Hop troupe being awarded Grand National Champions in 2018 and 2019. In consideration of the travel restrictions throughout 2020 and 2021, our dancers travelled to the Sunshine Coast for a development camp where they experienced intensive classes in various dance genres. This camp also provided the opportunity to connect with local Sunshine Coast Dance Crew 'The House of Sole' who choreographed a routine for one of our Senior Hip Hop teams.
