Forest Lake State High School offers Instrumental Music as an extra-curricular subject. Students participate in one 35-minute lesson in Brass, Percussion, Strings or Woodwind tuition each week on a rotating timetable. Entry into this program is agreed to by a signed contract and is open to beginners or to students who are continuing their learning from primary school. Most of our Instrumental Music teachers also teach at our feeder primary schools and we encourage the continuation of this tuition throughout high school.
Students are invited into the school's Program of Excellence ensembles when their teacher believes them to be learning at the appropriate repertoire level. Our Program of Excellence ensembles include Concert Band, Jazz Band, String Orchestra and DrumLine as well as smaller ensembles such as a newly established Brass Quintet. These ensembles regularly participate in numerous events and competitions, including an alternating camp and tour excursion schedule, ANZAC Day, Graduation and School Awards ceremonies, plus Fanfare and Prestige festivals.
