NAIDOC Week 2026 – 50 Years of Deadly
This week FLAKE proudly celebrated NAIDOC Week with junior and senior assemblies honouring the history, cultures and achievements of our First Nation peoples.
Our celebrations featured a Welcome to Country performance, student-led Acknowledgements of Country and the Australian National Anthem performed in language. While celebrating this years theme, "50 Years of Deadly," students were encouraged to reflect on the past, celebrate First Nations leadership today and support future generations with pride and respect.
Our school community was reminded that “pride alone is not enough" and that our school must continue ensuring First Nations students feel “seen, heard, supported and celebrated beyond one assembly or one week.
The assembly concluded with a challenge for everyone: “Respect is not passive." Through our words, actions and willingness to stand beside others, we can continue building a school that is stronger, safer and more respectful every day
We thank Amarina (Year 12) and Jayda (Year 9) for delivering the Senior and Junior Acknowledgements, along with all students, staff and community members who contributed.
The NAIDOC Theme in 2026 encourages our school community to “look back, look around and look forward"—honouring those who built the NAIDOC movement, recognising First Nations leadership and achievement today, and supporting the next generation to grow with pride, cultural connection and opportunity.
